DougCO's Choice Scholarship Program Upheld | |
February 28th, 2013 |
The Colorado Court of Appeals today upheld the Douglas County School District's Choice Scholarship Program, a program instituted by the Douglas County Board of Education in order to give parents more choice in their children's education.
The program had been obstructed from benefiting parents and students by a lawsuit filed by the ACLU and others. Today, the Colorado Court of Appeals upheld the constitutionality of the Choice Scholarship Program.
The court observed that "Plaintiffs failed to carry their burden of proving the unconstitutionality of the CSP beyond a reasonable doubt, or by any other potentially applicable standard." (Ruling)
The court also noted that disagreements over such policies "must be left to the political process."
The voters of Douglas County have spoken twice already, and will speak again this November.
Douglas County Republicans continue to support choice and innovation in education, consistent with our party's platform.
