Sen. Johnston (D-Denver) to Discuss School Funding in Douglas County

Colorado Senator Mike Johnston (D-Denver) is proposing School Finance Bill SB13-213 which will implement numerous changes to Colorado's public education system in return for a statewide tax increase.

The District Accountability Committee (DAC) for the Douglas County School District will host an evening with Senator Mike Johnston on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, CO. The public is invited to attend the event which will be held in the school auditorium located at 2842 Front Street in Castle Rock, CO from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.

Douglas County Republicans are invited and encouraged to attend to observe the presentation and draw conclusions about whether a tax hike is appropriate in Colorado this November.

According to the State filing, School Finance Bill SB 13-213 addresses reforms for:

* Calculation of pupil enrollment;
* Funding for preschool and kindergarten pupils;
* Factors included in the formula for calculating total program;
* The definition of at-risk pupils and the percentage increase in funding for at-risk pupils;
* Minimum per pupil funding;
* On-line pupil funding and ASCENT program funding;
* Calculation of total program for and payment of state moneys to institute charter schools;
* Calculation of state and local shares of total program;
* Authorized mill levy overrides;
* State moneys available to districts and institute charter schools in addition to total program;
* Mid-year recalculation of total program for certain districts and institute charter schools;
* Allocations of funding by districts to charter schools and other schools of the district;
* Review of the return on the investment of funding and cost studies every 4 years;
* Public financial reporting by districts and institute charter schools;
* State moneys for mid-year recalculation of funding for new and expanding district charter schools.
