GOOD NEWS: DougCO School Board & Castle Rock Open Carry | |
| December 4th, 2013 |
Fellow Republicans,
There was great news last night in Castle Rock.
First, our newly elected and re-elected Republican school board directors were sworn-in. Congratulations to re-elected directors Meghann Silverthorn and Doug Benvento, and to newly elected directors Dr. Jim Geddes and Judi Reynolds. Also congratulations to Kevin Larsen who was elected president of the board, and to Doug Benevento who was elected vice-president. We look forward to four more years of innovative education reform in Douglas County!
Second,
the proposed expansion of the prohibition of open carry in Castle Rock was rejected by the town council. Not only was it rejected,
Councilwoman Jennifer Green proposed that the existing ban on open carry be repealed. Staff will now write up a proposal to repeal the existing ban and restore the constitutional rights that existed in Castle Rock up until 2003. This will require two more council meetings for the council to adopt, and Castle Rock supporters of the 2nd Amendment will need to make their voices heard again at that time. We'll keep you posted of those developments.
To all the citizens of Castle Rock who called and emailed town council members, and spoke last night at the meeting, in support of your 2nd Amendment rights, well done!
We have much to celebrate in Douglas County!
Regards,
Craig Steiner, Chairman
Douglas County Republicans
