Commissioner Jack Hilbert Announces Resignation

June 18th, 2014

Fellow Douglas County Republicans,

Commissioner Jack Hilbert has announced that he will be resigning his position as county commissioner effective July 13th, 2014.

Commissioner Hilbert has accepted an opportunity that has been offered to him by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Child Welfare Protection Division, as the Child Welfare Hotline System Manager beginning July 14.

We thank Commissioner Hilbert for his service to Douglas County and wish him the best in his new role working with the State of Colorado.

It will be the responsibility of the Douglas County Republican Central Committee to appoint a new county commissioner to fill Mr. Hilbert's remaining term in office.

Although a vacancy meeting will not officially be called until the resignation is effective on July 13th, we are planning to convene the Central Committee on Monday, July 21st.  We'd ask that members set aside the evening of Monday, July 21st, pending an official call being sent once Commissioner Hilbert's resignation is effective on July 13th.

At this time, Jack Hilbert remains our Republican candidate for House District 44 and all Republicans should vote their primary ballot normally.

At such time as Mr. Hilbert may officially withdraw his candidacy for House District 44, the vacancy committee for House District 44 would appoint a Republican candidate to appear on the ballot in November.  This would be a completely separate process from the commissioner vacancy and would occur on a separate (but similar) timetable.  The vacancy committee ratified by the House District 44 Assembly in March of this year consists of: the chairman, vice-chair, and secretary of House District 44, the chairman, vice-chair, and secretary of Douglas County Republicans, and the members of the General Assembly residing in House District 44.

We will keep you advised of additional information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,
Craig Steiner, Chairman
Douglas County Republicans
