Information regarding House District 44

June 26th, 2014

Fellow House District 44 Republicans,

On Wednesday, June 18th, Commissioner Jack Hilbert--who is also the sole Republican candidate for House District 44--announced that he would be resigning as commissioner effective Sunday, July 13th, to pursue another opportunity.

Mr. Hilbert has not officially announced his withdrawal as a candidate for House District 44--and any such unofficial announcement could be revoked prior to any such withdrawal's effective date.

However, given the state statute the vacancy meeting must be held between 5 and 7 day after a vacancy is effective, it is not unreasonable to plan for an eventuality in which there could be a vacancy in designation for House District 44.

At such time as Mr. Hilbert may officially withdraw his candidacy for House District 44, the vacancy committee for House District 44 would appoint a Republican candidate to appear on the ballot in November. The vacancy committee ratified by the House District 44 Assembly in March of this year consists of: the chairman, vice-chair, and secretary of House District 44, the chairman, vice-chair, and secretary of Douglas County Republicans, and the members of the General Assembly residing in House District 44.

Although a vacancy meeting will not officially be called unless a resignation becomes effective, we are planning to convene the Vacancy Committee on Saturday, July 19th. Additional details regarding the potential vacancy committee meeting can be found on the following webpage: http://www.dcgop.org/HD44.

At this time, Jack Hilbert remains our Republican candidate for House District 44.

Sincerely,
Bob Tate, Chairman
House District 44 Republican Committee
